Some arrested bandits opened up on why they request for huge ransoms after successful abduction


The suspects, nabbed in Zamfara, on Friday, May 14, confessed that they stand to get juicy cuts when big ramsons are paid in exchange for their captives. One of them, Shehu Ali Kachalla, a Nigerien, said he has been in the business of selling guns in the north for three years

 

The police command in Zamfara on Friday, May 14, paraded some notorious bandits who have been unleashing terror and wreaking havoc in most parts of the north. Shehu Mohammed, the police spokesman in the state, disclosed that arrest was made possible through the collaboration of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Federal Intelligence Investigation Bureau and Special Tactical Squad, according to Channels TV’s exclusive report.

 

The suspects, among whom is a Nigerien citizen, Shehu Ali Kachalla, a gun dealer, are notorious for making life unbearable for residents of northwestern and north-central states. Weapons recovered from the criminals included four AK-49 riffles, nine magazines, 960 live ammunition, and many charms. Kachalla confessed that he has been selling guns to northwestern states for the past three years

 

His accomplice from Niger, Abubakar Ali, also admitted that he has been terrorising Kaduna state for the same number of years. They both revealed that their leader pays them between N600,000 and N700,000 in any kidnap that fetches the gang at least N20 million ransom

 

A medical doctor, Zakariah Dogo Yaro of the Kaduna state Ministry of Health was among those killed during the incident which happened on Sunday morning, April 25. Some church members were also abducted by the bandits while several sustained injuries
